I am a huge fan of anime and I am thankful to Japan for coming up
with the concept. This particular discusses the top rated anime series
and their original plot summaries. What you need to understand that this
list is not made out of personal biases but is in line with the
official ratings from a popular anime website. You are however, invited
to let us know about your opinions and thoughts on the following series.
10. EVANGELION: 2.0 YOU CAN (NOT) ADVANCE
Under constant attack by Angels, NERV introduces two new pilots: the
mysterious Makinami Mari Illustrous and the intense Asuka Langley
Shikinami. Parallel to the incursion, Gendo Ikari and SEELE proceed with
the secret project that involves both Rei and Shinji.
9. COWBOY BEPOP
Spike Spiegel, a bounty Hunter with a dark past, lives on bounty to
bounty, barely making it each time, or not making it at all. His
partners Jet Black, Faye Valentine, Ed and Ein the dog all help him in
his adventures from planet to planet.
8. ANOHANA: THE FLOWER WE SAW THAT DAY
Five childhood friends grow apart after the death of Meiko Honma,
close playmate of them all. Jinta Yadomi, leader of the group when they
were kids, neglects high school and lives as a shut-in when he
unexpectedly starts seeing the ghost of Meiko, who can only interact
with him and no one else. She has returned to ask Jinta to fulfill the
forgotten wish she made as a kid.
7. SPIRITED AWAY
On their way to their new home, a young girl, Chihiro, and her
parents stumble into what appears to be an abandoned theme park. But all
is not as it seems, as the theme park is a bath-house for the spirits,
and not a place where humans are welcome. Chihiro must fend for herself
and rescue her parents, as they have been turned to pigs as punishment
for eating the food meant for the gods.
6. THE DISAPPEARANCE OF HARUHI SUZUMIYA
It is mid-december, and SOS Brigade chief Haruhi Suzumiya announces
that the Brigade is going to hold a Christmas party in their clubroom,
with Japanese hotpot for dinner. The brigade members Kyon, Yuki Nagato,
Mikuru Asahina and Itsuki Koizumi start preparing everything for the
party, such as costumes and decorations. But a couple of days later,
Kyon arrives at school only to find that Haruhi is missing. Not only
that, but Mikuru claims she has never known Kyon before, Koizumi is also
missing, and Yuki has become the sole member of the literature club.
The SOS Brigade seems to have never existed, nor has Haruhi Suzumiya. No
one in the school has ever heard about her… except for Kyon.
5. CODE GEASS: LELOUCH OF THE REBELLION R2
It’s been one year since the failure of the Black Rebellion and the
supposed death of Zero. Britannia has assigned Area 11 a “correctional
education” status, where Elevens are made an example of by brute force,
to try to prevent any future uprisings and suppress rebellious thoughts.
Unsuspecting high school student Lelouch, oblivious to his rebellious
past as Zero, stumbles upon a scheme on his life and the life of a
mysterious woman known as C.C., who reveals to him his forgotten purpose
and his “true” self. Destroying his assailants and declaring himself
Zero once again, Lelouch sets out to finish what he started.
4. RUROUNI KENSHIN: TRUST & BETRAYAL
Taken by slavers when he was a child, Himura Kenshin is rescued only
when an encounter with bandits kills off everyone but him. He is found
by a master of the Divine Justice School of Swordmanship, a school so
deadly that to train in it means death for either the master or
student—there can only be one master. Taken by the master, Kenshin is
trained in this school, only to leave before finishing so that he may
join the Meiji Restoration and help prevent further tragedies like his
own. Thus is born the Battousai, the greatest strength of the Ishin
Patriots, a boy of 15 who kills for the sake of building a new, better
world. One night, he comes across a mysterious woman, Tomoe. He must
hide with her when the revolution stumbles. They marry for appearances,
but soon fall in love. Tomoe has another reason to be with Kenshin, one
she regrets but cannot stop. Revenge must be satisfied, and only blood
can do that.
3. FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST: BROTHERHOOD
Two brothers lose their mother to an incurable disease. With the
power of “alchemy”, they use taboo knowledge to resurrect her. The
process fails, and as a toll for using this type of alchemy, the older
brother, Edward Elric loses his left leg while the younger brother,
Alphonse Elric loses his entire body. To save his brother, Edward
sacrifices his right arm and is able to affix his brother’s soul to a
suit of armor. With the help of a family friend, Edward receives metal
limbs – “automail” – to replace his lost ones. With that, Edward vows to
search for the Philosopher’s Stone to return the brothers to their
original bodies, even if it means becoming a “State Alchemist”, one who
uses his/her alchemy for the military.
2. STEINS; GATE
Rintaro Okabe is a self-proclaimed “mad scientist” who believes that
an international scientific organization named SERN is conspiring to
reshape the world according to its own interests. He and his friend
Itaru Hashida inadvertently create a gadget able to send messages to the
past. The discovery and experimentation of this instrument become the
catalyst of fundamental alterations to the present. Okabe is the only
one aware of these changes because he possesses a Reading Steiner, the
ability to retain the memories from previous experienced timelines.
Oblivious of the consequences of their actions, Rintaro and his friends
end up creating modifications of grievous proportions. He must then try
to find a way to return as close as possible to the original timeline in
order to save his precious lab partners.
1. CLANNAD AFTER STORY
