In this post I am going to cover all the Doodles that Google planned for the grand London 2012 Olympic
event. This blog post is going to be updated so make sure you check
back every day to see the new stuff. If you are totally unaware, then
let my start by telling that the search giant had a lot of preparations
for this Olympic. Not only their search queries were updated with custom
charts and layouts covering the latest events, scores etc. but they
also planned to showcase a new Doodle every day as long as the Olympic continues.
July 27th Doodle (Pre Celebrations)
Just before the countdown of the much awaited opening ceremony,
Google updated their homepage with a Doodle that showcased several
athletes practicing their events and holding the words G, O and E.
Celebrations are just getting started. This is a perfect picture to get
you in the Olympic groove.
July 28th Doodle (Archery)
As you guys know that one of the first events to be held in this
Olympics is Archery. This sport requires a lot of accuracy and
concentration. In today’s Doodle we see a girl aiming with her bow and
arrow towards the letters of Google. In this case one of the ‘O’ is the
actual aiming board. This image is creatively done and depicts the sport
accurately.
July 29th Google Doodle (Diving)
Today is fully packed with diving events that mainly consists of
Men’s and women’s 3m & 10m (Springboard). Some
synchronization events are also there later in the evening. The Doodle
showcases a black women (probably American) taking her stance for the
diving event and the pool is tiled with the words “Google” at the
bottom. The white color for the tiles synced with the blue waters makes
the company text easily recognizable.
July 30th Google Doodle (Fencing)
Today’s Olympic Google Doodle features the game of fencing. We just
finished the men’s fencing event and tomorrow the Women’s Event will
complete as well. Fencing requires deadly precision and reflexes. You
need to wear a protective suit before you enter the arena. The Doodle
features two people fencing with each other on a Marine Blue background
(depicting the audience). The words of Google are written in blue as
well.
July 31st Google Doodle (Rings)
Today’s Olympic Google Doodle features a very popular event from the
gymnastics category. Rings requires immense strength and flexibility as
the person hangs with the support of two suspended rings and performs
various forms and tricks before landing on the pad below. In this
picture the two Rings represents the letters O for the word “Google”.
August 1st Google Doodle (Hockey)
Hockey is the national sport of India. Today marks the start of the
final round hockey events amongst all the countries. If you don’t know
anything about this sport then simply think of it as soccer with sticks
driving the ball in different direction. The Doodle shows a female
hockey player driving the ball and you can see the letters “Google” in
the background. The wall acts as a block for the entire image making the
letters more crisp and clear.
August 2nd Google Doodle (Table Tennis)
For today the Doodle shows a table tennis match between a creepy
looking woman and another undefined opponent. The bluish color of the
image is well contrasted with the netting that display’s the company’s
text broadly. As far as the real games are concerned, we have the Table
Tennis semi -final and final matches today.
August 3rd Google Doodle (Shot Put)
Shot put requires both technique and strength. It is a very popular
track and field event. Today’s Olympic Google Doodle shows a guy taking
the Shot Put stance while officials wait in background of the Google
alphabets.
August 4th Google Doodle (Pole Vault)
Pole Vault is considered one of the most technical events on the
track and field segment. It required extreme concentration and a very
flexible body in order to throw yourself high over the pole. The Google
Doodle shows a women doing a prefect vault while the background scenery
shows the actual text in full white background.
August 5th Google Doodle (Synchronized Swimming)
The Synchronized Swimming Google Doodle is the most creative Olympic
Doodle yet. Not only do you see the letters in a rippling underwater
line. The white floating letters are covered by a swimming formation
that completes the “O”. Synchronized swimming requires rhythm and
perfect balance. It’s an eye pleasing and elegant sport.
August 6th Google Doodle (Javelin)
Today’s theme is Javelin where the Doodle displays a Javelin action
being performed by an athlete. The background is covered by a wave of
spectators with the words Google appearing in pure white. Javelin is one
of the most popular track and field events where you need to throw a
spear made of fiber. Throwing it requires the right angle of 35 degrees
as well as strength.
August 7th Google Doodle (Hurdles)
Today’s Olympic Google Doodle was quite different from the previous
ones. Instead of a regular image representing a particular sport this
Doodle, this one actually lets you play the game of Hurdles.
August 8th Google Doodle (Basketball)
Basketball is one of the fastest games in the history of mankind. Not
only the players need to fast but they should also have good height and
precision for throwing the balls in the basket. Today’s Google Doodle
allows users to play the basketball target game and the words of the
company are scattered in benches dominating the background frame.
August 9th Google Doodle (Canoe Slalom)
Canoe slalom is a new form of kayaking where you need to steer a
canoe through some predefined path. In today’s Doodle you can actually
play the game as a canoe driver.
August 10th Google Doodle (Football)
Today’s theme was football. In this Doodle you play as a goalkeeper
where you need to save as many kicks possible before the other player
(computer) manages to score three goals. I covered an in-depth article about the Goalkeeper Doodle in another post so make sure you check it out.
August 11th Google Doodle (Rhythmic Gymnastics)
Rhythmic Gymnastics is the prettiest and one of the most glamorous
events in the Olympics. There are a total of 4 rounds, each with their
own set of equipment’s. You have rings, balls, sticks and finally ribbon
and the winner is determined by adding up your scores from all your
rounds. We all saw how Russia dominated the event for the past few games
and this year was no different with Yevgeniya Kanayeva winning the gold
medal for the second time in a row. The Google Doodle for Gymnastic
features the ribbon round where we find the image of a gymnast making
the two circles of the word “Google”. Although this is not a
full-fledged game like the previous few doodles, I think the graphic is
very creative.
August 12th (Closing Ceremony)
The past few days of the Olympics took London to a whole new level.
The internet played a major role in promoting the game and making sure
that you get to experience each and every sport regardless of your
location. This is the last Olympic Google Doodle where they feature the
closing ceremony for the games.
