10 Facts About Beer and Wine

There are so many different things associated with beer and wine. Many take them because they think they are beneficial to health. There are people who absolutely hate the taste. Then there are people who do not like to drink alcohol and there are some whose religion does not allow them alcohol. But these alcoholic drinks are one of the best creations of humans, there is absolutely no doubt about that and I am sure you will agree with me. You must have heard a lot about these drinks, but what I am about to mention on this list is probably something you never heard of. Following are the ten facts about wine and beer that might interest you.

10. HEALTHY

This is one of the facts you probably already know about wines. In a study that was conducted over a period of ten years has proven that the ‘Red Wine’ is actually quite beneficial to your health. It helps your heart because of the antioxidant properties of Red Wine. It can also assist in the cure of neurological disorders and can also help in preventing many cancers. But please, do not over-consume. If you need maximum benefits two glasses of wine for men and one glass for women everyday is a healthy number.

9. THE WORLD AND ALCOHOL

Every country has different policies and therefore in every country the legal drinking age is different. For example, in most part of Europe 16 years is a legal age to drink. It is 18 for Canada and around 20 years in almost the entire Asia. It is 21 years in the USA. If you consider the three top beer consuming countries per capita, Czech Republic comes out the winner followed by Ireland and Germany. Germany, by the way has the largest number of breweries however China is the number one producer of beer. Italy consumes the most wine and Italy also happens to be the top producer of wine.

8. BEST BEER

We will discuss the worst beers next but let’s talk about the best beers for now. It is obviously very difficult to figure out what the best beer is and it was. You can’t really put your finger on ‘one’ best beer because everybody has different tastes. However, the countries with best beer is a little easier to decide upon and in that case Belgium came out on the top closely followed by Germany and then the United States (which is weird, you’ll know why).

7. WORST BEER

Whenever you pick a product, there is a best (above) and then there’s the worst. This survey was conducted in over 80 countries. Some 2,000 people were questioned regarding the countries with the worst beer ever. When the results were tallied the United States came out on the top followed by China, United Kingdom, Australia, France and then Italy. Surprisingly, Budweiser was ranked as the number one worst brand by the people who were surveyed.

6. BEST WINE REGIONS

The best wines in the world come from the city of Bordeaux in France. It has around 284,320 acres of vineyards, capable of producing 960 million bottles of wine per year. These wines can range from the everyday table wine to most expensive wines of the world. Brands like Chateau d’Yquem and Chateau Cheval Blanc come from that very region and sell for tens of thousands of dollars. The greatest bottle of wine from Bordeaux was sold for $304,375 dollars.

5. WEIRD BEERS

Now I know that most of you hate the taste of beers or most of the other alcoholic drinks for that matter. If that is not enough, the breweries (some of them) take it to the next level. I am not sure why anyone would go through the trouble of making such things and I can’t even imagine the person who would actually drink that ‘thing’ (look at the picture). There are beers flavored with dead Tarantulas. The one in the picture is the Korean Baby Mouse Liquor. It is made with distilled rice spirits.

4. STUPID BRAND NAMES (WINE)

No matter what product you choose, you will always find some seriously questionable names and you will find yourself wondering the possible reasons for naming that product so. Wines are not different. There is a wine by the name of ‘Fat Bastard’. There is an Australian brand of wine called ‘Bitch’. There is a brand name ‘(Oops)’. Finally, I am honored to share with you a French wine called ‘La Vin de Merde’ and that means ‘Wine of Shit’; happy drinking.

3. DISADVANTAGES OF BEER

If you consume beer in large quantities you can become obese and that symptom has been seen in men over and over again. It can also lead to higher blood pressures and can cause dehydration. If you are into heavy drinking, it can cause serious damage to your liver. One of the most dangerous side effects to drinking is that fact that it renders you completely useless behind the wheel of  a car or any vehicle for that matter and has led to many accidents; fatal ones.

2. RANDOM FACTS

If you consider almost half of the hospitals in 65 of the largest metropolitan areas of the USA, you will know that they offer alcoholic drinks to their patients. Alcohol is listed as a medicine in the United States Pharmacopeia. All thirteen minerals necessary to human life are found in alcoholic beverages. In order to cure ‘hangovers’ ancient Greeks would eat cabbages, while ancient Romans ate fried canaries and Russians drink vodka to cure a hangover.

1. BEER SAVED THE WORLD

Did you happen to see the documentary on ‘How Beer Saved the World’ on Discovery Channel? Well, apparently ‘beer’ was responsible for the development of human civilization and therefore, is the greatest invention of all time. It goes on to say that the agricultural revolution stepped in because of the need to make beer which in turn led to many other inventions such as, the wheel, irrigation systems and plow etc. Cities were built to produce more beer because of the growing number of people. The documentary goes on to explain that every invention had the ‘lust for beer’ at the base.
